VISA CHIP CARDS
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is my card being upgraded to a Chip card?
Chip technology is already in use in other countries and is now coming to the US. Your new chip card provides an extra level of security and is easy to use at places already using chip terminals.
What is a Chip Card?
Your chip card comes with an encrypted microchip embedded in the card. The microchip provides an enhanced layer of security to your transactions.
When will I receive my new Chip card?
We will be issuing new chip cards too all of our Debit card members who do not currently have a chip card in September & October 2016. Visa Platinum credit card holders will receive a new chip card when their current card expires.
How is the Chip card more secure?
The embedded microchip provides unique data specific to your card and the transaction being processed. These security features make your chip card extremely difficult to counterfeit.
Can I use my Chip card for everyday transactions or at non-chip terminals?
Yes. Your chip card will also have the usual magnetic stripe on the back so you can continue using your card at ATMs and Point of Sale terminals while merchants in the U.S. transition to the new terminal.
How do I set my Personal Identification Number (PIN)?
We no longer send PIN mailers for new cards. You will be prompted to set your PIN when you call to activate your new card.
New Fraud Monitoring Service!
KCCU is excited to announce that we have enhanced our fraud monitoring service. If you have given us your mobile phone number, we will now send you an automated text message when we suspect fraud or wish to confirm transactions on your Visa and Debit cards. If your phone can not receive text messages, we will call you via an automated phone system. If we do not make contact with you by phone, then we will send you a follow up letter
