An overdraft occurs when you do not have enough money in your account to cover a transaction, but for your convenience KCCU pays the transaction anyway. We can cover your overdrafts in three different ways.
- Standard Courtesy Pay practices that come with your account, as outlined below.
- Overdraft Line of Credit which maybe less expensive.
- Linking your checking account to another account (such as your savings) with an automatic transfer of funds if you overdraft. A $5 per transfer fee applies.
KCCU offers Courtesy Pay (overdraft protection) as a convenience to protect you against high fees and the embarrassment associated with “bounced checks” or having your purchases declined. Courtesy Pay allows you to make purchases even if you have insufficient funds in your account. It can also serve as a back up allowing you to use your account in an emergency even if you don’t have enough money in your account.
How Courtesy Pay Works — Rather than automatically returning your unpaid overdraft items or being declined when trying to make a purchase, KCCU will authorize and pay your reasonable overdrafts, as long as you maintain your account in good standing.
Standard Overdraft Practices — We do authorize and pay overdrafts for checks and automatic bill payments. We do not authorize and pay overdrafts on ATM or everyday debit card transactions, unless you give us consent.
What Courtesy Pay Costs — There are no monthly maintenance fees! There are no set-up charges! You only pay if, and when, you actually use the service. A $30 Courtesy Pay service charge applies each time we pay an overdraft. Having Courtesy Pay does not guarantee that KCCU will pay your overdrafts. If we decide to pay an overdraft, you will be charged a fee as described above. However if we do not authorize and pay an overdraft, your transaction will be declined.
How to Sign Up for Courtesy Pay — If you would like to activate your Courtesy Pay now, please log into ItsMe247 online banking. You can authorize Courtesy Pay on your account by going to the Info Center tab at the top left, and select Overdraft Services under My Preferences.BACK TO TOP
